Pros of a 30A Photographer Mini Session
When looking at options for family photos, you can typically choose between two primary types of photography sessions: a mini session and a full session.
Each has pros and cons, which must be weighed before deciding. Here are some advantages of booking a mini session for your family photoshoot.
1. Quick and Convenient
Mini sessions are perfect for individuals or families with busy schedules. They typically last for a shorter time (e.g., 15-30 minutes) and require minimal preparation, making them easy to fit into a hectic vacation day.
This can be particularly appealing for those with young children or pets. It minimizes the time needed to keep everyone engaged and cooperative during the photo shoot.
2. Cost-Effective
Mini sessions often have a lower price point than traditional full-length photo sessions. This lower price point makes professional photography more accessible to a wider range of clients. This can be especially attractive for families working within a tighter budget but still desire high-quality images captured by a skilled photographer.
3. Ideal for “just a few digitals”
Most of the time, mini sessions result in a few digitals that clients would get.
Whether it’s for social media posting, printing for holiday cards, etc, mini sessions provide an opportunity to capture just a couple photos in less time.
Cons of a Mini Session
In some cases, 30A Photographer mini session is not everyone’s cup of tea. There are some drawbacks which we’ll review here.
1. Stress for Families With Little Kids
While a mini session allows you to “get in and get out” quickly, it can be stressful for families with young children. The reason most of the time is related to time for kids to warm up to new faces – your photographer.
As a result, the abbreviated time frame of a mini session may not allow for this. This can result in rushed and potentially less natural-looking photos.
2. Insufficient Time for Full Families
Mini sessions may not provide enough time for larger or extended families to capture meaningful group shots and individual portraits of each family member. This limitation can lead to dissatisfaction with the variety and quality of the final images.
Additionally, during mini sessions, people may not have enough time to relax and get comfortable in front of the camera. This can result in tense or forced-looking photographs that do not reflect the genuine personalities and emotions of the subjects.
3. Weather Constraints in Florida
The weather in Florida can be unpredictable, particularly around sunset, a popular time for photography sessions. With individual sunset time slots for multiple families, adjusting start times to accommodate weather changes is feasible.
However, with mini sessions involving multiple families, it becomes challenging to coordinate timing adjustments due to weather. This could lead to suboptimal lighting conditions and less flexible scheduling.
4. Lesser Flexibility and Variety
Shorter duration of the mini sessions can still limit a range of poses, natural backdrops, or themes. Usually clients are limited to a one-two spots which doesn’t create diverse portraits.
Clients may feel rushed and won’t have enough time to express their unique personalities. They usually receive a smaller collection of photographs with less variety.
Pros of a 30A Photographer Full Session
Next, we have a 30a photographer full session. There are several advantages to selecting this option over the shorter mini version. Here are our top four.
1. Opportunity for Variety of Photos.
An entire 1-hour session allows for a diverse range of portraits. These can include:
- Different group portraits to feature different relationships inside the family/group.
- Individual portraits which often become the favorite for parents and grandparents who are looking to get kids individual photos or teens/older kids that are graduating.
- Candid moments are cherished forever – that is where we see personalities and bond between family members florish.
- Different backdrops or settings. That’s a must in little towns on the beach like Rosemary Beach, Alys Beach, Watercolor, Seaside, etc. The reason is that the architectural backdrop of these stunning places is like no other. Most of our sessions start in town and end on the beach. Making a casual walk through streets of 30a towns to the beach while taking portraits is so special! Another take on it is more practical – we have more shaded areas in town so it allows us to come to the beach when the sunset sun is more subtle and not harsh.
2. Relaxed and Unrushed Atmosphere
A longer session creates a more relaxed and unhurried atmosphere. This can make families feel comfortable and natural in front of the camera. When this happens, it results in more authentic and passionate photographers who capture genuine smiles and interactions.
3. Enhanced Creativity and Flexibility
A full photo session allows the photographer to make a connection with clients and try different poses, compositions, and angles. This creative freedom can result in a more diverse and captivating final gallery of images.
4. Weather Reschedule Flexibility
As we know Florida weather can be a sassy lady, so when 30a photographers schedule only one photo session per evening, it’s easier to move up time in case if there are late afternoon showers moving through.
Cons of a Full Session
If the full session sounds good so far, it’s only fair we list the disadvantages you can expect. Here are our top three.
1. Restlessness
Both adults and children may struggle to maintain enthusiasm and engagement throughout a full session.
2. Cost
A full session may not be the most cost-effective option for some families.
3. Overwhelming for Young Children
Young children, in particular, may find it challenging to focus and behave naturally for a full 1-hour session. This can lead to frustration for the children and the parents, resulting in less-than-ideal photos and a less enjoyable experience overall.
30A Photographer Mini Session or Full Session: Which Will You Choose?
If you’re looking for a quick and convenient option that is still affordable, a 30A Photographer mini session may be a good choice. However, a full session may be better if you want more time to get comfortable in front of the camera or have a larger family.
Ti Adoro Studios way.
We offer the same price for the shorter or longer photo session and we just go with the flow to make sure we get the portraits our clients will cherish forever. If the clients want to be done in 20 min, we will wrap up the session, but if they prefer to keep going, we are game as well!
